What is Day Surgery?
Day surgery is commonly misinterpreted as comprising only of simple surgeries, such as treating “lumps and bumps”. However, most surgeries for patients who are otherwise fit and healthy can actually be done as a day-only case, meaning that the entire process from check-in to discharge occurs within the same calendar day.
With the advanced surgery and anaesthetic techniques available today, the majority of elective surgeries in countries such as the UK and Australia are now done as day surgery. Hong Kong is witnessing a shifting trend in health insurance coverage towards favouring day surgery, and this benefits patients with substantially lower healthcare costs due to the elimination of charges associated with hospital accommodation. Patients also do not have to worry about securing a hospital bed, alleviating the existing pressures on hospitals.
Lastly, day surgery outside a hospital mitigates the risks of inpatient hospital stay, such as hospital-acquired infections.
Our VIP Suites
Customers visiting us for their day surgery will be accommodated in one of our private VIP suites prior to surgery. This is also where you will meet your surgeon and anaesthetist before your procedure.
Our VIP suites have been designed so that you can prepare for surgery in a quiet and comfortable environment and discuss anything you wish with the surgical team in complete privacy. If you wish, your companion may keep you company in the suite.
Our Operating Theatres
The Central Surgery is equipped with three operating theatres that have been designed to comply with international standards of quality and safety. They are capable of accommodating various procedures ranging from minor surgeries under light sedation to more complex procedures under general anaesthetic.
Our Recovery Area
The recovery area is where you will gradually wake up from the sedation or anaesthetic you were under during your surgery. It is staffed by a nurse and backed up by an on-site anaesthetist who will closely monitor your postsurgical recovery.
Information for your Companion
We encourage your companion to wait for you in one of the several cafés and restaurants in Champion Tower, where there is ample indoor and outdoor seating with free Wi-Fi.
We will contact your companion to come and pick you up around half an hour before you are discharged.
